Is it weird?
Is it weird wanting to go back to a small developing country?
Not many people seem to understand it, especially not the ones who left this developing country 30 years ago to live in (for example) the Netherlands, where I am currently studying. Weird right?
Okay now, maybe I am not being totally honest. This particular country is Suriname. If you do not know where this is, Google it! (and just like that, I made you 0.1% smarter). I was born and brought up in this warm: Caribbean like, but not in the Caribbean, in South America, but not Latin-American like country. I could go on. Just one more…Indian, Indonesian, Chinese and African like, but NOT that country. Love it!
And bonus: we speak Dutch… WOW right? Even people in the Netherlands (University students!) do not know that there is this ‘other’ Dutch speaking country which was colonized by the them (Dutch) centuries ago…
But anyways. Suriname’s economy is failing. I won’t talk politics, even though I also, once, wanted to study politics instead of engineering, I am remembering a lot of things about myself. So yes, I won’t, but it is heartbreaking when something like that happens to your beloved nation. Up till now it is not THAT bad, so there still is a choice, but what if this choice actually becomes so obvious NOT to chose?
I mean definitely the way of living is not so good as in Europe. But as I always say you CANNOT, CANNOT, CANNOT compare a developing country to a first world country. When the Europeans were on their way to colonize the world, we were friendly and welcoming to our new guests. Maybe we shouldn’t have. But come on! They had churches and big buildings around the 12th century (even before) and we were just eating sand.
So ultimately it comes down to, being happy in a country where the economy is failing or pretending to be happy in a European country with better health care system and economy.
Weird?
A bit of a writer, much?
I remember one day, when I was having a new course during my Bachelors, the lecturer asked us questions. One question was simple. What do you want to do later in life?
Of course, me having some kind of anxiety, was already thinking and rehearsing in my head what to say… do we all do this?
Anyway, I just blurred something out. It was “I want to write a book some day”. Well I did not know where that came from. But it did.
And then I remembered..I once wrote a book when I was young. It was a children’s book, and I really did consider becoming a writer then. Not that I was so amazed by books (even though I wear glasses) or don’t read a lot of books. It was just the average, complete all the Harry Potter books, read the last one twice (or thrice?) and the standard mandatory books to be read during High School. But back to the book that I once wrote. I don’t remember much, but I hid it in my cupboard. It was about a girl going on a holiday somewhere. That’s it. I don’t remember more.
I don’t live at home anymore. So the next time I visit home, I will look for it and write an update about it. I know you don’t care but who cares, I probably won’t do it anyways because by then I will have already forgotten about this blog i made.
Okay but hey, I’m a writer now.

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.
Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.
When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
